Choi Sown Le graduated from the Royal College of Music in London and Conservatoire de Musique, Geneva where he was awarded the Premier Prix de Virtuosité with distinction. He studied with various masters including pianist Michelangeli and conductor Celibidache. He has performed with renowned conductors including Maxim Shostakovich and Arpad Gerecz, and appeared as guest soloist with the Prague Chamber Orchestra, Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, the former Central Philharmonic Orchestra of Beijing and the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra. Choi has also participated in the Pittsburgh Asian Arts Festival, Thonon Music Festival in France, the Swiss Bach Festival and the Hong Kong Arts Festival.
He was awarded "Instrumentalist of the Year" by the Hong Kong Artists Guild in 1990, "The Great Pianist - Golden Dragon Award" by the Hong Kong (Overseas) Literature and Arts Association in 1998, and was the First Prize winner in the 1999 Pinault International Piano Competition in New York City.
He is the visiting professor of the Dalian and Xinghai Conservatory, and honourary professor of the Sichuan and Tianjin Conservatory.
Choi was invited to be one of the jury members of the 15th and 16th Leeds International Pianoforte Competitions and the All-Nippon Piano Competition in 2007.
